Signs of worn brakes
- Squealing or grinding when braking
- Vibration in the steering wheel or pedal when braking
- The vehicle pulls to one side
- Brake pad wear warning on the instrument cluster
Pads and discs
Pads and discs wear together. A new disc with old pads, or the other way round, doesn't brake properly. When replacing them we also check the calipers, guides and brake hoses.
Brake fluid
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time, which lowers its boiling point. Under hard or prolonged braking this feels like a "soft" pedal. That's why it is changed at time intervals, regardless of mileage.
Electronic parking brake and SBC
On vehicles with an electronic parking brake, replacing the pads requires a service mode via diagnostics. Vehicles with the SBC system also need a special procedure when working on the brakes.
