What to do immediately
- Stop safely and switch off the engine
- Don't open the coolant reservoir while the engine is hot: the coolant is under pressure
- Don't pour cold water into a hot engine
- Call the workshop or our towing service
Most common causes
- Faulty thermostat (on many newer engines the thermostat is electronically controlled)
- Faulty water pump
- Coolant leak
- Clogged radiator or faulty fan
How we find the fault
In addition to a visual inspection and a leak check, we use diagnostics to monitor the actual engine temperature and the operation of the thermostat, pump and fan. That way only the part that is really faulty gets replaced.
