What is the EZS
The EZS is the electronic ignition lock. When you insert the key, it checks that the key really belongs to that vehicle and only then allows the engine to start. It is linked to the engine control unit and, on many models, to the electronic steering lock.
What the fault looks like
- The key goes into the lock but won't turn
- No reaction at all on the instrument cluster
- The vehicle won't start, although the battery is fine
- The problem appears occasionally, then more and more often
Most common causes
The fault can be in the lock itself (worn coil or contacts, a fault on the circuit board), in the key (flat battery or a damaged key) or in the steering lock. That's why it's important to find out where the problem is first, rather than replacing the lock straight away.
How we fix it
- Diagnostics tell us whether the fault is in the key, the ignition lock or the steering lock
- We test and code the ignition lock on the test bench
- We repair the EZS circuit board
- We make spare keys
- We adapt used and new engine control units to the EZS ignition lock
